To assist or not to assist?

In the wake of sexual assault and #MeToo in the yoga community and the decade of surrounding silence, the relationship between teachers and students has to be revisited. Rather than let sexual predators “ruin” yoga, the yoga community is evolving to find new ways to honor the teacher/student relationship and keep students feeling safe and respected. As it should – shouldn’t a community formed on ahimsa, svadhyaya, and an understanding of ceaseless change be leading the way?

Using tools like assist cards is such a simple and low-effort way to reinstate a sense of body autonomy to a student. I made these cards yesterday for my students, and hope they are helpful for you, too.
